Does cotton grow on plants or trees?

My g/F seems to think that cotton grows on those trees that have thorns on the trunk. However I disagree. I think that it grows on little plants that r like 2ft. tall %26amp; not trees. anyone who knows the answer and can settle this please do so.

cotton grows on plants not trees
Reply:If you live in Southern California or South Florida those trees are Silk Floss Trees (Chorisia). They produce pods at least as big as a fist filled with fluffy white fiber. They also have spectacular pink %26quot;orchid-like%26quot; flowers in the fall.

The trees are spectacular and you won%26#039;t mistake them for anything. They do use the fibers for stuffing pillows and matresses.
Reply:Plants- hence a Cotton Plantation!
Reply:Cotton grows on shrubs.

Specifically Cotton shrubs.

Go Figure.
Reply:Of course trees are plants; however, cotton grows on bushes/shrubs. The trees you are referring to may be cottonwood trees or some sort of poplar.
Reply:Cotton grows on plants. Wikipedia has a good picture and explanation.
Reply:Plants are a major group of living things including familiar organisms such as trees, flowers, herbs, bushes, grasses, vines, ferns, and mosses.

Cotton plant is a bush.

Reply:I swear I remember reading in a beastiary that cotton came from the vegetable lamb. These creatures grow on plants, but their wool is harvested to produce cotton!
Reply:Plants! In fact I just picked one the other day while visiting the Hermitage (Andrew Jacksons plantation) in Nashville! When the plants mature the large tennis-ball sized buds on top open displaying the dry cotton. The open buds are sharp and painful to pick. The plants are fairly short, probably about waist or chest high on me and I%26#039;m 5%26#039;4. Hope this helps!
